Beer For Breakfast

Beer for Breakfast specialise in Ceilis for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, folk festivals, PTAs, corporate events and for any other reason you wish, from very large events to small gatherings. Playing as a four piece ceili band, along with an excellent caller, we can give your Ceili an Irish, Scottish or English flavour- depending on what you want! Our callers are very experienced and are there to make your event very enjoyable and for you to have fun.

The band comes equipped and ready to play at all types of venue - from small gatherings to very large events. Festivals, pubs, clubs, corporate events, weddings, ceilis, birthdays, anniversaries, folk festivals or PTA do's - you name it and we play for it!

We have a top quality self-contained PA speaker system to suit most venues, with electrical equipment safety certificates and public liability insurance. If your special event or venue is too small to accommodate a ceili but you'd still like some traditional Irish or Scottish music, we will also play unplugged.
Ceili, Cilidh, Ceilidh or Cil?

How you spell it rather depends on where you come from, but everyone pronounces it kay-lee. It's a gathering for music and dance and a great way to ensure that everyone at your event meet each other in a fun atmosphere.

Any one who can walk can take part and no previous experience is necessary because ceili dancing is pretty easy to pick up. The dances are pattern dances and may be done in lines, squares and circles and many are progressive which means that couples change partners regularly during the dance. A ceili is particularly suitable for groups of mixed ages and tastes.

Our caller will instruct you in each dance before you do it, call the steps and supervise the dance once it starts. Getting the steps absolutely right is neither expected nor demanded, in fact the object is to have fun and lots of it.

We will normally split the evening into periods of 45 mins to 60 mins and will perform a tune in between dances if you wish, to allow you to get your breath back! We are happy to organise the ceili to fit in with your disco, or any other activities you have planned. If in doubt contact us to discuss all your requirements. This is your event and we want to ensure it runs as smoothly and as successfully as possible and be great fun!

Testimonials

The Swinton Folk Festival was a little wet, due to howling gales, but it didn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm of those inside the Lancastrian Hall, Best gigs of the event went to Stanley Accrington and a new bunch to me called Beer for Breakfast, (what an awful name,) but nothing awful about their Celtic influenced folk and swing. They did doubly well as their regular fiddler was absent having chopped off his fingers; very bright. Get in touch people if you read this.

The following night on the Saturday, we went to the Huntington in Manchester and saw the second set of Beer for Breakfast, the band were terrific and the crowd asked for at least two encores
- Manchester Music Review

"Beer for Breakfast are no strangers to the folk scene and have been playing at pubs, clubs and festivals throughout the North West for the past two years. The musical pedigree of the individual players goes back much further: each has a history of playing with different bands for more years than they will admit to. Beer for Breakfast play the best of traditional & contemporary Irish songs and music, generating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere at live performances guaranteed to have you up on your feet dancing and singing or more usually both at the same time. Now with BBC radio performances under their belt, this band are becoming well known for their particular brand of music. They are busy gigging in pubs & clubs round NW England this year and are getting some good write-ups and are just finishing off a CD of their material. As well as the traditional and contemporary Irish songs and tunes, country and Celtic rock, they have been doing Ceili‟s with an excellent caller- so they are very versatile! "
