» Profile
John & Paul II is the collaboration of two Beatles devotees, Jon Mellor and Lee Doherty.Jon is the ex-bass player and vocalist of the band Ouch!, who in 1992 released their first UK single, I Need You More, featuring the retro 60's sound and characteristic vocal harmonies, for which they were to become hailed throughout the next decade. Major success followed in Japan, where the release in 1994 of their first album, Life Goes On, spawned two No.1 singles, Can't Stop Looking At You and You Should Know By Now.
The band's far eastern tours followed, seducing radio, TV and live audiences with several stunning 'unplugged' sessions built around their tight vocal harmony arrangements and including a performance of Beatles songs at Tokyo's own Cavern Club, homage to the famous Liverpool venue.
Meanwhile, Lee was working as a session vocalist and lead guitarist with several top Midlands bands. He was the voice and writing force behind the band Love & War, winning the BBC's Friday Rock show and gaining acclaim from the show's Tommy Vance and rave reviews from Rock press icons Metal Hammer & Metal Forces. He has also collaborated with Slade's Jim Lea on a more recent project. Lee has impeccable Fab Four credentials, having toured extensively with 60's Liverpool band The Fourmost, who had hits with songs written for them by Lennon and McCartney.
Today John & Paul II gives you the chance to enjoy the combined talents of two Beatles nuts, performing the songs they love and which have influenced them throughout their musical careers.
Listen to John & Paul II perform Please Please Me, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Penny Lane and many other of their hits and can you honestly say that the spirit of the Beatles does not live on?
John & Paul II are: Lee Doherty - Vocals and guitar & Jon Mellor -
Vocals and bass.

"These guys are the best tribute act I've seen. The vocals in particular were virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. They went down a storm. If you want an authentic sound, look no further!"- Mike McGrath, Director, Speedy Hire plc
"John & Paul ll are The fab two!The boys were great - Everyone made a point of remarking on how good their act was."
- Jim Bruce, Deepcut Village Association Club
"We had Jon & Paul at the club last night and they were absolutely fantastic. The place was rocking all night until well after midnight - they will be definitely coming back."
- Rick Ford, Alderley Edge Golf Club
"John and Paul 2 were excellent. People who don't normally get up to dance at functions were on their feet all night!! The dance floor was packed from the beginning to the end of the night. If I closed my eyes I would have thought I was listening to the real thing. The boys were very polite and gave 110%. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and I can't wait to have another function to organise, hopefully in the not too distant future, so that I can book them again."
- Pauline Dainty
